As Illinois experiences record levels of violence that continues to take the lives of innocent children, one group of people is making a killing – literally. Who is profiting from the crime guns that are flooding our state? Meet the gun manufacturers that compose the National Rifle Association’s “Golden Ring of Freedom.” While the gun lobby wants you to think it stands for freedom, we will call it what it really is: The Ring of Corruption.
Here are some quick facts about the Ring of Corruption:
- The Golden Ring is an “exclusive club” for $1 million-plus donors to the National Rifle Association.
- Several members of the Ring of Corruption have been the focus of criminal investigations and lawsuits over everything from arms trafficking and fraud to armed robbery and racketeering.
Worse, these executives who profit from Illinois’ gun violence crisis are literally buying the allegiance of candidates to make sure they can continue to make a profit. In fact, the money the Ring of Corruption donates to candidates endorsed by the NRA for Illinois House and State Senate seats has yielded a big return on investment. NRA-bought politicians have filed 40 bills in Springfield to weaken Illinois’ gun laws by allowing domestic abusers to obtain guns, allowing guns in schools, guns in houses of worship, and guns on public transportation.
Why would the Ring of Corruption want legally prohibited and dangerous people to own guns?
Because it’s good for business!
Here’s where you can fight back against the Ring of Corruption’s dangerous agenda: Support G-PAC’s work to elect candidates who will champion public safety policies that stop the flow of crime guns (and money to the Ring of Corruption). We have just 22 days until the most consequential election of our lifetimes – now is the time to make sure our Gun Safety Candidates finish strong with the resources they need.
Let’s stand up and fight back against the gun manufacturers in Ring of Corruption and their bought and paid-for puppets in Springfield.
