CHAMPAIGN — Providing information to police, increasing background checks for gun owners and dealers and doing a better job of securing guns in homes and vehicles were among the solutions suggested to curb gun violence at a town-hall meeting Monday.
More than 110 people gathered at the University YMCA on Monday night meeting to talk about specific ways to solve the problem of gun violence in Illinois.
State Rep. Carol Ammons, D-Urbana, served as the host for “Solutions to Gun Violence,” sponsored by the Illinois Council Against Handgun Violence, Moms Demand Action For Gun Sense In America and the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence.
“This meeting isn’t only about mothers who lost their children to people who used weapons,” Ammons said. “It is about how they got the weapons and ways to stop that.” …
[Colleen] Daley, Executive Director of Illinois Council Against Handgun Violence also called for licensing all firearms dealers.
“While 98 percent of gun dealers are good corporate citizens, we need to make sure those bad apples are held accountable,” Daley said.
