Declare State of Emergency Over Gun Violence

Cook County Commissioner Urges Governor to Declare State of Emergency Over Gun Violence

The request comes days after the Chicago Police Department released startling crime statistics for the first month of 2016

During the news conference, Boykin explained that he had three requests. He asked for neighborhood stabilization teams which would utilize agencies including Homeland Security and the Small Business Administration to help residents to get the services they need.

Boykin’s second request asks for additional federal resources to help the clearance rate of cases at the Chicago Police Department, including help from the FBI and Federal Marshals.

“We need them all engaged to stop the bloodshed in the streets of Chicago,” Boykin said.
Lastly, the commissioner requested the federal government for an economic investment in communities that have been “devastated” by unemployment and poverty.
