Folks from the Brady Campaign to prevent Gun Violence and the Gun Violence Prevention PAC gathered to make the announcement with Quinn on the sidewalk near an entrance to the LaSalle Street Blue Line stop. It was on the LaSalle Blue Line platform last week that a man opened fire on a train with an assault rifle. No one was injured and the shooter, who family members say is mentally ill, was quickly arrested by police.
“My opponent will not ban assault weapons. He thinks that everyone should have an assault weapon and use it as they see fit,” Quinn said of his Republican opponent Bruce Rauner. “I couldn’t disagree with him more. Our state needs to ban assault weapons and we need to do it now.”
