G-PAC & Giffords Endorse Gun Safety Champions for the Illinois General Assembly

This past week has been filled with tragedies due to gun violence. We lost Chicago Police Commander Paul Bauer, shot and killed by a felon with a gun with an extended magazine clip at the Thompson Center. Yesterday, we witnessed yet another school shooting where 17 individuals were killed in Florida. Sadly, that shooting occurred on the very same day five students were shot and killed at Northern Illinois University ten years ago.

We offer our deepest condolences to every family impacted by these tragedies. But we are also going to honor the victims with action as no other family should ever have to endure this kind of pain and suffering again. That starts by supporting candidates who will champion policies that will protect our children, families and communities from gun violence.

Today, G-PAC, and Giffords, the gun safety organization founded by former Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords and Captain Mark Kelly, announced their joint endorsement of 12 gun safety champions for the Illinois General Assembly.

Each of these candidates has demonstrated a strong commitment to gun violence prevention policies that help keep guns out of the wrong hands and make Illinois communities safer.

The newly-endorsed candidates include:

  • Iris Martinez (Senate District 20)

  • Daniel Burke (House District 1)

  • Lamont Robinson (House District 5)

  • Kelly Cassidy (House District 14)

  • Jennifer Gong-Gershowitz (House District 17)

  • Robert Martwick (House District 19)

  • Elizabeth Hernandez (House District 24)

  • Justin Slaughter (House District 27)

  • Robert Rita (House District 28)

  • Thaddeus Jones (House District 29)

  • Mary Flowers (House District 31)

  • Daniel Didech (House District 59)

Too many families in Illinois have suffered for too long because of policies that put the interests of the gun industry before the safety of our children. That’s why voters in every part of Illinois are uniting as one voice to demand that lawmakers in Springfield make sensible gun safety measures the law of our state. We are proud to join with Giffords to endorse candidates who are ready to beat back the gun lobby and focus on keeping families and children safe from gun violence.

We’ve had enough. Let’s elect the leadership we deserve.
