G-PAC RESPONDS TO FEDERAL JUDGE’S RULING THAT ASSAULT WEAPONS BANS ARE “CONSTITUTIONALLY SOUND”

CHICAGO – Today, the Gun Violence Prevention PAC (G-PAC), the state’s leading gun safety organization, released a statement following a judge’s decision to deny a motion seeking a temporary restraining order against Illinois’ assault weapons ban. U.S. District Judge Virginia Kendall ruled that both the Illinois and Naperville assault weapons bans are “constitutionally sounds.”

“G-PAC welcomes the decision of Federal Judge Virginia Kendall upholding as “constitutionally sound” the new Illinois law banning assault weapons and high capacity magazines. For all of us who worked to pass this law, and for all of the potential victims who will be protected by it, it is good news that the first judge to rule on the statute recognizes that it stands squarely in the historical U.S. tradition of banning dangerous weapons.”
