I was in a closet, locked for four hours with people who I would consider almost family, crying and weeping on me, begging for their lives. I understand what it’s like to text my parents, ‘Goodbye, I might never ever, ever get to see you again. I love you.’ I understand what it’s like to fear for your life.
— Alfonso Calderon, February 22, 2018, Survivor, Marjorie Stoneman Douglas High School massacre, Parkland Florida
This young man left for school on February 14, 2018, not knowing that a mass shooter would abruptly end his childhood, killing 17 of his classmates and wounding 17 others. Fueling rage and sorrow into action, the Stoneman Douglas High School students organized a student-led demonstration (March for Our Lives) in support of tighter gun control that took place on March 24, 2018, in Washington, D.C., with over 800 sibling events throughout the United States and around the world. And they’ve been Marching For their Lives ever since.
Alphonso Calderon, founding member of March for Our Lives, will be joining us to honor our Profile in Courage Award recipients. Please join us on Thursday, October 18th and meet this young champion.
Please make your reservations for this evening of honoring our awardees now.
