G-PAC STATEMENT ON TEXAS SCHOOL SHOOTING
CHICAGO – The Gun Violence Prevention PAC (G-PAC) is issuing the following statement in response to the second-deadliest school shooting at an elementary school in American history.
“G-PAC is horrified to see reports out of Texas that an eighteen-year-old got his hands on multiple weapons and killed 18 classmates and a teacher in Uvalde, Texas. That makes this tragedy the second-deadliest school shooting at an elementary school, behind only Sandy Hook in 2012. Since then, inaction has plagued Congress,” said Kathleen Sances, President and CEO of G-PAC.
“The corporate gun lobby and the politicians who fail to protect our children — like Governor Abbott and Senator Cruz — must take responsibility for their role in the ongoing gun violence in our country.
“The 27th school shooting this year, this tragic incident comes just days before the NRA will hold their annual meeting in Houston and where they will brag about the number of guns purchased by Texas residents. Policymakers must act now to reign in weak gun laws that continue to put children in harm’s way. Firearms are the leading death of children in this country — we cannot wait any longer.”
